The Delhi High Court on Tuesday stayed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal"s bail in a money-laundering case in connection to the now-scrapped liquor policy and will continue to stay in jail.
The High Court argued that the lower court - Delhi"s Rouse Avenue Court - "didn"t apply its mind" when granting bail and criticised the trial court’s observation that the voluminous material presented by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is “totally unjustified.”
“Observation by the trial court that voluminous material cannot be considered is totally unjustified and it shows that the trial court has not applied its mind to the material,” the court said.
The trial court on June 20 granted bail to Kejriwal who was arrested on March 21, by the ED and ordered his release on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. On Monday, the Aam Aadmi Party chief moved the Supreme Court to consider the interim stay, but the Apex Court refused immediate relief to him noting that it would not intervene in the matter when the High Court has already reserved its judgement.
